A city in the southeastern part of Saitama Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1967. It is located on the northeastern edge of the Musashino Plateau, with the Arakawa River flowing along its northeastern border. The city center was a former post town on the Kawagoe Highway, and was called Hizaori-juku. During World War II, a military academy was established here, and after the war it became a US military camp, but is now a Self-Defense Force base. The copper-drawing industry, which existed in the late Edo period, declined after the war, and instead the metal and plastic, publishing and printing industries have developed, but there are many small factories. The Musashino Line and Tobu Tojo Line run through the city, and residential development has progressed rapidly since the 1960s. 18.34 km2 . 129,691 people (2010). → Related article Frank Nagai Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
