Japanese: 朝霞[市] - あさか

A city in the southeastern part of Saitama Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1967. It is located on the northeastern edge of the Musashino Plateau, with the Arakawa River flowing along its northeastern border. The city center was a former post town on the Kawagoe Highway, and was called Hizaori-juku. During World War II, a military academy was established here, and after the war it became a US military camp, but is now a Self-Defense Force base. The copper-drawing industry, which existed in the late Edo period, declined after the war, and instead the metal and plastic, publishing and printing industries have developed, but there are many small factories. The Musashino Line and Tobu Tojo Line run through the city, and residential development has progressed rapidly since the 1960s. ^{18.34 km2} . 129,691 people (2010).

埼玉県南東部の市。1967年市制。武蔵野台地北東部の縁辺にあり，北東境を荒川が流れる。中心市街は川越街道の旧宿場町で，膝折(ひざおり)宿と呼ばれた。第２次大戦中，陸軍士官学校が設けられ，戦後は米軍キャンプになったが，現在は自衛隊基地となっている。江戸末期からの伸銅工業は戦後衰微，代わって金属・プラスチック，出版・印刷工業が発達しているが，小規模な工場が多い。武蔵野線，東武東上線が通じ，1960年代から宅地化が急速に進んだ。18.34km²。12万9691人（2010）。
