Narrow environment resistance

Japanese: 狭環境性 - きょうかんきょうせい
Narrow environment resistance

For example, reef-building corals that live in tropical and subtropical regions today live only in warm waters where the surface water temperature never falls below 18°C in winter, and only in shallow, transparent waters with depths of less than 50m, forming coral reefs. Because of their strict environmental requirements, the discovery of coral reef fossils allows us to infer that the ancient environment in which the strata containing them were deposited was a warm, shallow sea, and how extensive such an area was. The more strict the environment of the ancient organisms, the more precisely their fossils can determine the ancient environment.
