Located in the Yamada River basin, a tributary of the Kuji River. [3] A place name in the southwestern part of Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture. In ancient times, there was Yamada Temple. ※Man'yoshu (late 8th century) 13.3276 "Less than a hundred, walking along the road in Yamada, with my beloved wife, the waves and clouds, without speaking to her since we parted." [4] The name of a district in Ise City, Mie Prefecture. It is a town in front of the outer shrine of Ise Jingu, and was formed around the residence of the shrine official. [5] The name of a place in Ono City, Hyogo Prefecture. Yamada-no-sato.

[1] 〘名〙① 山の中にある田。山間の田。山田の代(しろ)。《季・秋》※古事記(712)下・歌謡「あしひきの 夜麻陀(ヤマダ)を作り 山高み 下樋を走せ」② 「やまだりゅう(山田流)」の略。[2][一] 福岡県中部の地名。遠賀川の上流域にある。筑豊炭田南部の炭鉱都市として発展したが、石炭合理化によって衰微。昭和二九年(一九五四)市制。[二] 常陸国(茨城県)の古郷名。現在の常陸太田市北部。久慈川の支流、山田川の流域にあたる。[三] 奈良県桜井市南西部の地名。古代、山田寺があった。※万葉(8C後)一三・三二七六「百足らず 山田の道を 波雲の 愛(うつく)し妻と 語らはず 別れし来れば」[四] 三重県伊勢市の地区名。伊勢神宮外宮の門前町で、祠官宅を中心に形成された。[五] 兵庫県小野市の地名。山田ノ里。
