Born in 1759, Kyoto [Died] October 24, 1818 (Bunsei 1). A painter of the Maruyama School in Kyoto. His pen name was Hakugo, his common name was Takejiro, and his pen names were Soken and Sansai. He studied under Maruyama Okyo and excelled in portraits and bird-and-flower paintings. He was particularly skilled at painting Japanese-style beauties, which made a good pair with the Chinese beauties of his fellow student, Genki. He wrote the Wajinbutsu Gafu (6 volumes).
