A common name for tuberculous cervical lymphadenitis. Infection occurs lymphatically from the initial infection site in the pharynx or tonsils, or hematogenously from the initial infection site in the lungs. The cervical lymph nodes swell in large numbers and are connected in a rosary-like pattern. The disease progresses chronically, but in the early active stage, symptoms such as fever and tenderness of the lymph nodes are prominent. Treatment includes systemic administration of anti-tuberculous drugs (sometimes injected into the lymph nodes), X-ray therapy of the lesions, and removal of the lesions. → Related topics Radiation therapy | Lymphadenitis Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
