Naoto Yamaguchi

Japanese: 山口直友 - やまぐちなおとも

1546-1622 Azuchi-Toyotomi: A samurai from the early Edo period.
Born in Tenbun 15. Served Tokugawa Ieyasu. In 1601, he mediated an incident in which Shimazu Iehisa, the lord of the Satsuma-Kagoshima domain, killed his elder retainer Ijuin Tadamune, and thereafter served as a go-between between the shogunate and the Shimazu clan. After serving as Tanba County Magistrate, he became the castle guard and town magistrate of Fushimi Castle. He died on September 27, 1620, at the age of 77. He was commonly known as Shingoro and Kanbei.

天文(てんぶん)15年生まれ。徳川家康につかえる。慶長4年薩摩(さつま)鹿児島藩主島津家久が家老伊集院忠棟(いじゅういん-ただむね)を手討ちにした事件を調停し,以後幕府と島津氏の仲介役となる。丹波郡代をへて伏見(ふしみ)城番兼町奉行。元和(げんな)8年9月27日死去。77歳。通称は新五郎,勘兵衛。
