...It refers to the act of worshiping and offering newly made images or sculptures of Tathagata, Bodhisattva, Heavenly Being, Myo-o, or Patriarchs, and welcoming their divine power. It is abbreviated as Kaigen, Kaimei, Kaikomyo, or Senbutsu. The fifth chapter of the Wago Toroku explains the two aspects of Kaigen and the principles of it: "Kaigan means that the sculptor of the original Buddha opens his eyes and opens them.
