Japanese: 風にそよぐ葦 - かぜにそよぐあし

A full-length novel by Ishikawa Tatsuzo (1905-85). It was serialized in the Mainichi Shimbun from 1949 to 1951, and published by Shinchosha in 1950 and 1951. Set in the period from 1941, just before the outbreak of the Pacific War, to 1947 after the war, it depicts the hardships faced by the liberal Ashizawa Yuhei, who ran the publishing company Shinhyoronsha, and his family. Ashizawa is based on Shimanaka Yusaku, who was president of Chuokoronsha, and the novel also includes details of the repression the company suffered during the war (the Yokohama Incident). The turbulent times of the time are also captured through scenes of labor disputes that occurred at Shinhyoronsha after the war.

石川達三(1905‐85)の長編小説。1949‐51年《毎日新聞》に連載，50,51年，新潮社刊。太平洋戦争開戦の直前，1941年から戦後の47年までを時代背景として，出版社新評論社を経営するリベラリスト葦沢悠平とその家族の苦難を描く。葦沢は中央公論社の社長であった嶋中雄作をモデルにしており，同社が戦時下にこうむった弾圧(横浜事件)の様相なども書きこまれる。戦後，新評論社に起こった労働争議の場面を通しても，当時の激動する時世がとらえられている。
