An insect belonging to the order Hemiptera, suborder Homoptera, family Diaspididae. The female shell is long and slender, 2.8-3.5 mm long. It is dark brown with grayish white edges. There is a prominent longitudinal ridge in the center of the back. The male shell is small, 1.2-1.5 mm long. It is white with three longitudinal ridges on the back. Adult females are wingless and have clearly defined body segments. Adult males are long and slender, about 0.6 mm long, with wingspans of about 1.8 mm. Their bodies are orange-yellow, and their antennae are long and made up of 10 segments. They emerge three times a year, and overwinter as adult females. They parasitize the stems, leaves, and fruits of citrus fruits, causing sooty mildew that turns them black, causing great damage. Native to China, they are found throughout Japan. Known natural enemies include the small red-spotted ladybug and the black ladybug.

昆虫綱半翅(はんし)目同翅亜目マルカイガラムシ科Diaspididaeに属する昆虫。雌の貝殻は細長く、2.8～3.5ミリ。濃い褐色で、縁は灰白色。背面中央には顕著な縦稜(じゅうりょう)がある。雄の貝殻は小さく、1.2～1.5ミリ。白色で背面には3本の縦稜がある。雌成虫は無翅で、体節は明瞭(めいりょう)。雄成虫は細長く約0.6ミリ、はねの開張が1.8ミリ内外。体は橙黄(とうこう)色で、触角は長く10節からなる。年3回発生し、雌成虫で越冬する。ミカン類の茎、葉、果実に寄生して黒色化させるすす病を併発して大害を与える。中国原産で、日本全土に分布する。天敵として、ヒメアカボシテントウ、クロテントウなどが知られる。
