Yachiyo [city] - Yachiyo
A city located on the Shimousa Plateau in the northwest of Chiba Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1967. Owada, the central city, has been a post town on the Narita Kaido road since early modern times. After World War II, large housing estates were developed, and from the 1950s onwards, a new Keisei Electric Railway station was built, and the city developed into a residential city within Tokyo. In 1996, the Toyo Rapid Railway opened. Industrial estates were also developed, and metal, general machinery, food and other industries are thriving. Dairy cows have been raised in rural areas since the early Showa period. The city suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 51.39 km2 . Population 189,781 (2010).
