A city located on the Shimousa Plateau in the northwest of Chiba Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1967. Owada, the central city, has been a post town on the Narita Kaido road since early modern times. After World War II, large housing estates were developed, and from the 1950s onwards, a new Keisei Electric Railway station was built, and the city developed into a residential city within Tokyo. In 1996, the Toyo Rapid Railway opened. Industrial estates were also developed, and metal, general machinery, food and other industries are thriving. Dairy cows have been raised in rural areas since the early Showa period. The city suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 51.39 km2 . Population 189,781 (2010). 千葉県北西部,下総(しもうさ)台地上の市。1967年市制。中心市街の大和田は近世以来成田街道の宿場町であった。第2次世界大戦後大規模な住宅団地が造成され,1950年代以降京成電鉄に駅も新設され,東京の住宅都市として発展,1996年に東葉高速鉄道が開通した。工業団地も開発され,金属,一般機器,食品などの工業が盛んである。農村部では昭和初期以来乳牛の飼育を行う。東日本大震災で,市内において被害が発生。51.39km2。18万9781人(2010)。
