Table palm - Table palm

Japanese:
Table palm - Table palm
A small palm found in Mexico and Guatemala. It was introduced to Japan around 1955 and is cultivated as an ornamental potted plant. It is a representative species of small palm, and those 3-4 years old are beautiful. The leaves are pinnately compound and grow to 40-60 cm in length, with more than 30 elongated leaflets. As the plant gets older, the lower leaves naturally wither and fall off, making it unsightly. It is also cold-resistant and can tolerate a lack of sunlight, so it can be enjoyed indoors. In summer, it will get sunburned if not in partial shade. It is prone to spider mites. The dwarf table palm C. tenella Wendl. is also a small species, with beautiful, arrow-feather-shaped leaves that are silvery green, but there are few leaves and the lower leaves are prone to withering.
