Monyoki - Monyoki

Japanese: 門葉記 - もんようき

This is a compilation of records from Shoren-in Temple at Enryaku-ji Temple over a period of approximately 300 years, from the early 12th century to the early 15th century. The original was compiled by Prince Sonen during the Northern and Southern Courts period. It initially consisted of 130 volumes. It was later expanded and supplemented twice during the Edo period. It is categorized into 20 categories, including the Shinseiko-ho, the Godan-ho, religious practices, Buddhist ceremonies, ablutions, the conduct of the head priest, temples, miscellaneous decisions, and mountain affairs. It is an important historical resource, on a par with the Kacho Yoraku, for understanding Enryaku-ji Temple in the Middle Ages, when historical documents are scarce. It is included in the 11th and 12th volumes of the iconography of the Taishō Shinshū Daizōkyō. [Inaba Shindo]
