Japanese: アクセス時間 - あくせすじかん

The time it takes for a storage device such as a hard disk to receive a data transfer request from the CPU and start the transfer. Also known as access time. Access time is the combination of the seek time and the disk rotation wait time. The faster the access time, the better the performance of the storage device. With circular disks, the access times for data on the outer circumference and data on the inner circumference differ, so the access time listed in catalogs refers to the average access time between the outermost and innermost circumferences. This is sometimes called the "average access time."

ハードディスクなどの記憶装置が、CPUからデータ転送の要求を受け、転送を開始するまでの時間のこと。アクセスタイムとも呼ばれる。シーク時間とディスクの回転待ち時間を合わせたものがアクセス時間になる。アクセス時間が速いほど、記憶装置の性能がよいといえる。円盤形のディスクでは、外周にあるデータと内周のデータのアクセス時間が異なるため、カタログなどで記載されているアクセス時間は、最外周と最内周のアクセス時間の平均時間を指す。これを「平均アクセス時間」ということもある。
