Daisen-in Temple

Japanese: 大仙院 - だいせんいん

This is a subtemple of Daitokuji Temple in Kita-ku, Kyoto City. It was founded by Kogaku Soko in 1509. The main hall, a designated national treasure of Muromachi architecture, is an old-style subtemple abbot's chamber, divided into six rooms, with an entrance hall on the southeast side. The garden built on the east side of the abbot's chamber is famous as a representative example of dry landscape gardening, with rocks and trees skillfully arranged in a small area of about 100 square ^meters , and the rocks and white sand create a scene of water springing deep in the mountains flowing as a river. It is a special place of scenic beauty and a historic site.

京都市北区にある大徳寺の塔頭 (たっちゅう) 。永正6 (1509) 年に古岳宗亘 (そうこう) が創建。国宝指定の室町建築の本堂は，古い形式の塔頭方丈で6室に分れ，南東に玄関をもつ。方丈の東側に築かれた庭は，約 100m²の小面積に，岩石と樹木を巧みに配置した枯山水 (かれさんすい) の代表的な作例として有名で，岩と白砂で山奥に湧出した水が川となって流れていく景が造り出されている。特別名勝，史跡。
