Mont Pelvoux (mountain)
It is part of the crystalline massif of the northern French Alps (which consists of the Mont Blanc, Belledonne, Grande Rousse, Ecrins or Pérbous massif, from north to south). It consists of the 3,932 m (12,000 ft) peak of Durand (usually called Mont Pérbous) and the 3,946 m (12,000 ft) peak of Puiseux. The former was first climbed by Durand in 1828, and the latter by V. Puiseux in 1848. The highest peak in the Ecrins massif is Bar des Ecrins (4,102 m), located northwest of Mont Pérbous.
