Gosuiden

Japanese: ごすいでん

The title of a sekkyobushi song. The original work is by Sado Shichidayu, and the publication date is unknown. Narratives about the origins of Kumano Gongen have been widely circulated since the Middle Ages, but this is structured in six sections in the style of Joruri. The favorite of the emperor, Gosuiden, is pregnant, but is killed in the mountains due to the slander of the jealous empresses. Gosuiden's motherly love, as she milks the headless corpse and raises the newborn prince, is moving and represents the life force of the earth. The grown-up prince preaches to the empresses about women's enlightenment, suggesting the deep fate between women and Kumano.

説経節の曲名。佐渡七太夫の正本で刊行年代は不詳。熊野権現の本縁を説く語り物は中世以来盛んに流布されたが，これは浄瑠璃風に六段に構成している。帝の寵愛を一身に受けたごすいでん(五翠殿)女御は，胎内に子を宿すが嫉妬に狂う后たちの讒言（ざんげん）にあって山中で斬られる。首のない骸（むくろ）から乳を出して，生まれた王子を養育するごすいでんの母性は感動的で，大地の生命力を現し，また，成長した王子が后たちに向かって女人成仏の説教を説くなど女性と熊野の深い因縁を暗示する。
