The leaflets are nearly parallelogram-shaped, with sharp serrations at the tips of short spines. The sporangia are located close to the margins of the leaflets, and the integument is reniform, with some of the edges extending in a hair-like manner. It prefers moist soil, and is sometimes considered one of the indicator plants for cedar forestation. The parent species, A. amabilis (Bl.)
