Cabbage White Butterfly (English name: Artogeia rapae)

Japanese: モンシロチョウ(紋白蝶) - モンシロチョウ（英語表記）Artogeia rapae

An insect of the family Pieridae in the order Lepidoptera (illustration). A typical pierid butterfly found worldwide, commonly found throughout Japan. Its wingspan is about 5cm. The spring type is small, and males are smaller than females. As the name suggests, it has a black pattern on its forewings. Its English name is small white, due to its color. It invaded and established itself in North America, Oceania, and other areas as Europeans advanced and developed. There is a widely held theory that it was brought to Japan from the Asian continent by agriculturalists at the end of the Jomon period, along with cultivated plants.
