A Turkic Islamic dynasty that ruled Central Asia. 840-1212. Also known as the Ilig Khan dynasty. There is no consensus on the origins of the dynasty. According to O. Pritsak's theory, when the Uighur Kingdom collapsed in 840, the Karluk tribal alliance under its control gained independence and established a new dynasty based in Berasagun on the Chu River. It was during the reign of Satuk Bogra Khan that Islam was first adopted, and by 960, during the reign of Musa, 200,000 nomadic Turks were said to have converted to Islam.
