(1) A distinguished family of nobles in Moscow and Russia who flourished from the 15th to the 17th centuries. Their ancestor was Ivan, nicknamed "Moroz," who lived in the mid-14th century. For generations, they received the title of boyar (noble), were given the right to participate in the noble council, and held important positions in the administrative organs of the Moscow state and at court. The most famous member of the family is Boris Ivanovich Morozov (1590-1661), who seized real power under Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich in the mid-17th century.
