Richard von Krafft‐Ebing

German psychiatrist. Born in Mannheim, he served as professor of psychiatry at the University of Strasbourg, the University of Graz, and the University of Vienna, and in 1879 wrote "Textbook of Psychiatry," which had a major impact on the medical world. However, he is known today for publishing "Sexual Psychopathy" in 1886, in which he attempted to provide a detailed description and classification of sexual abnormalities. This book has since been revised many times, and the classifications and names have changed considerably, but it still describes and names most of the important types, including sadism, masochism, homosexuality, necrophilia, mercenary murder, hypersexuality, and hyposexuality.

ドイツの精神医学者。マンハイムに生まれ，シュトラスブルク大学，グラーツ大学，ウィーン大学などの精神医学教授を歴任し，1879年に《精神医学教科書》を著して医学界に大きな影響を与えた。しかし，彼の名が今日知られるのは，異常性欲者の詳細な記述と分類を試みて1886年に《性的精神病質》を公刊したことによる。この本はその後改訂を重ね，分類，命名もかなり変化したが，サディズム，マゾヒズム，同性愛，屍姦，快楽殺人，性欲亢進症，性欲欠乏症など，重要な類型のほとんどを記述･命名している。
