…In 1870, he married Mathilde Mautet, who was sung in “Les Odes” (Les Odes), but this lull was quickly broken the following year by the appearance of Rimbaud, and this encounter, which ended in an unfortunate assault, caused him to lose everything except his status as a poet. His two most accomplished collections of poems, “Romances sans paroles” (1874) and “Sagesse” (1881), were established on this great sacrifice. The former is a development of the first and second collections that surpasses sensuality, while the latter is a work that is a more religiously purified version of his earlier “Les Odes” after his imprisonment, divorce, and conversion. With the rise of the decadent movement in the mid-1880s, he was elevated to the status of a master of the movement, but the collections of poems published under this public reputation, starting with “Antiquities and Recent Times” (1885), cannot be said to have added any new brilliance to his true literary glory, despite their enormous volume, except for the famous “Poetics” and several other excellent works. …
