Ryohen - Ryohen
[Born] 1193/1194? Kyoto
[Died] August 28, 1252 (Kencho 4). A Hosso sect monk in the Nara and Kamakura periods. He became a monk at Kofuku-ji Temple at a young age and studied Hosso. He later traveled to various temples to further his studies, and was particularly skilled in Inmyo (Buddhist logic) and became famous. In 1230 (Kanki 2), he became a lecturer at the Vimalakirti Society, and then became Hoin Gon Daisozu. He worked with Kakusho to restore the precepts, and also worked hard to promote the prosperity of Buddhism, such as by rebuilding Chisokuin Temple at Todai-ji Temple. His main works include Shinshin Yoketsu, Inmyo Daisho Shisho, Kanjin Kakumu Sho, and Sokyoroku Yogi.

鎌倉時代の法相宗僧。幼くして興福寺に出家し法相を学ぶ。のち諸寺を歴遊して学を修め,特に因明 (仏教論理学) に長じて名声を高めた。寛喜2 (1230) 年維摩会の講師となり,次いで法印権大僧都となる。覚盛とともに戒律の復興をはかり,また東大寺知足院を再興するなど仏教興隆に尽力した。主著『真心要決』『因明大疏私鈔』『観心覚夢鈔』『宗鏡録要義』。
