A phenomenon in which the current suddenly becomes faster in coastal areas, causing damage to fixed nets and aquaculture nets installed along the coast. It has long been known in Sagami Bay, Suruga Bay, Kashima Nada, and Amakusa Nada. It has been thought that this is caused by the influence of changes in the flow direction of the Kuroshio Current and the Oyashio Current, the development of wind-driven currents caused by the passage of low pressure systems, and the influence of tidal currents. In Sagami Bay, it is often caused by boundary waves generated by the approach of the Kuroshio Current and the passage of low pressure systems, while in Suruga Bay, it has been revealed that it is caused by internal tides that receive energy from tides.

沿岸域で突然流れが速くなり，沿岸に設置された定置網や養殖網に被害を与える現象。相模湾・駿河湾・鹿島灘・天草灘などで古くから知られている。これは黒潮や親潮の流向変化による影響，低気圧通過による吹送流の発達，潮汐流の影響などが原因として考えられてきた。相模湾では黒潮の接近，低気圧の通過に伴い発生した境界波などが原因で起こることが多く，駿河湾では潮汐からエネルギーを受けて発生する内部潮汐によることが明らかにされている。
