Ninurta was the son of Enlil, who had no city of his own, but whose cult coexisted with Nippur. He was of the same lineage as the Sumerian god Ningirsu, and they shared the same characteristics as gods of fertility and war, so the two gods have tended to be identified since the Old Babylonian period. Ninurta's heroic deeds are told in the Sumerian poems "The King, the Storm, Whose Splendor Overpowers" and "He Who Was Made Like An" and in the Akkadian myth "Anzu." *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Ningirsu" are listed below.
