A streamlined object is an object that, when placed in a flow, has a shape in which the streamlines that run along its surface do not leave the object until the end. The resistance that a streamlined object experiences is mostly viscous resistance, and pressure resistance does not work, so it is extremely small compared to objects of other shapes. The wing cross section and fuselage of an airplane are both streamlined. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
