László Moholy‐Nagy

Hungarian painter, sculptor, and design educator. Born in Borsoz, he studied law at the University of Budapest before serving in the military and beginning painting after being injured. In 1917 he formed the Ma (Today) group in Budapest, and after moving to Vienna he moved to Berlin in 1920, where he participated in the avant-garde art movement and held a solo exhibition at the Sturm Gallery in 1922. In the same year he became a Bauhaus master, taking charge of the metalworking workshop and teaching the preparatory course the following year. In addition to painting and sculpture, he produced constructivist and functionalist works in the fields of photography, typography, advertising, bookbinding, and more.

ハンガリー出身の画家，造形作家，デザイン教育者。ボルショードに生まれ，ブダペスト大学で法律を学んだのち兵役に服し，負傷後絵画を描き始める。1917年ブダペストで〈マMa(今日)〉グループを結成後，ウィーンを経て20年ベルリンに移り，前衛芸術運動に参加，22年シュトゥルム画廊で個展を開く。同年バウハウスのマイスターとなり，金属工房を担当，翌年からは予備課程をも指導，自らは絵画，立体作品のほかに写真，タイポグラフィー，広告，書物装丁などの分野で構成主義的で機能主義的な作品を制作した。
