Japanese: 霧降高原 - きりふりこうげん

A plateau on the southeastern foot of Mt. Nyoho and Mt. Akanagi in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture. It lies to the north of Mt. Ogura (753 meters), known as a campsite, and has a relatively gentle slope at an altitude of about 800 to 1600 meters. The Itaana River flows south along the eastern edge, and Kirifuri Falls, one of Nikko's three famous waterfalls, falls here. It is said that the name comes from the way the waterfall's flow breaks into pieces as it hits the rocks. The Yashio Azalea in spring, Hemerocallis day lilies in summer, and autumn leaves are beautiful. It is a 10-20 minute bus ride from Nikko Station. From here, the Kirifuri Kogen Road leads to Ozasa Farm.

Kirifuri Falls
This waterfall is located on the Itaana River, which flows near the border between Nikko City and Imaichi City. It is counted as one of the "Three Famous Waterfalls of Nikko" along with Kegon Falls and Uramitaki Falls. It is divided into two tiers, upper and lower, and is about 75m long. 栃木県日光市、女峰山(にょほうさん)・赤薙山(あかなぎさん)の南東麓(ろく)にある高原。キャンプ場で知られる小倉(おぐら)山（753メートル）北方、標高約800～1600メートルの比較的傾斜の緩い斜面。東端を板穴(いたあな)川が南流し、日光三名瀑(めいばく)の一つ、霧降滝がかかる。滝の水流が岩に当たって砕け散るさまからこの名がおこったという。春のヤシオツツジ、夏のニッコウキスゲ、秋の紅葉が美しい。日光駅からバスで10～20分。ここから大笹(おおざさ)牧場へ霧降高原道路が通じる。
