…In the late Middle Ages (1350-1500), both sacred and secular literature in the vernacular flourished, and one of the most unique works was the Versic Chronicles, the oldest printed work in Denmark (1495). The 16th century was the age of Protestant Reformation and humanism, and the greatest monument of vernacular literature was the King James Version of the Bible (1550), translated by the humanist Christian Pedersen (c. 1475-1554) and the Archbishop of Zealand, Peder Palladius (1503-60). In the 17th century, the first works that could be called artistic poetry based on the poetry of classical antiquity appeared, and the pastor Anders Arrebo (1587-1637), known as the "father of Danish poetry," compiled the Six Days of Creation (1630-37), modelled on the French work Holy Week by Du Bartas. …

…中世後期(1350‐1500)には国語による聖俗両種の文学が興隆し，なかでも独特な作品として，デンマーク最古の印刷物(1495)ともなった《韻文年代記》がある。　16世紀は宗教改革と人文主義の時代で，国語文学で最大の記念碑は，《クリスティアン3世欽定訳聖書》(1550)で，その翻訳の中心は，人文主義者ペーゼルセンChristiern Pedersen(1475ころ‐1554)とシェラン管区監督パラディウスPeder Palladius(1503‐60)である。17世紀になると，古典古代の詩芸に拠って芸術詩と呼びうる作品が初めて現れ，〈デンマーク詩芸の父〉アレボーAnders Arrebo(1587‐1637)牧師がフランスのデュ･バルタス作《聖週間》にならって天地創造の《六日物語》をまとめた(1630‐37)。…
