The title of a kyogen piece. It is a waki-kyogen/peasant piece. It is found in both the Okura and Izumi schools. A peasant from Kaga Province travels to Kyoto to present last year's tax of chrysanthemum wine, which was delayed due to heavy snow, to the Uetou (the lord of the manor in Kyoto). On the way, he becomes companions with a peasant from Echizen Province who is also on his way to present a kagami mochi (rice cake) as last year's tax. When he arrives at the Mitachi Palace in the capital, there is a poetry gathering happening at the time, and as a punishment for delaying the tax, the peasant is asked to compose a poem by the soujiya (intermediary). Kaga wrote, "As I drank and lay awake at night, I beat a year off, and am now two years drunk," and Echizen wrote, "The rice cakes are pounded before the year is out. Will I eat this year as if it were last year, or this year?" He was overjoyed when he was pardoned from all public taxes, but was reprimanded for his loud voice and told to compose a louder poem this time.
