〘Noun〙 (Bohemian bohémien, someone who lives in Bohemia) 1. Another name for gypsy (Roma). *France Monogatari (1909) by Nagai Kafu, snake charmer: "In English , it's gypsy. In French , it's called bohemian." 2. (adjectival verb) A person who lives freely outside of society's norms and patterns. Also, the state of being free and unconventional. This was especially common among some artists and intellectuals in France in the second half of the 19th century. *On the Street (1919) by Akutagawa Ryunosuke, 30: "I'm a bohemian. I'm not an epicurean like you."
