Japanese: モチカ文化 - モチカぶんか

The culture of the Classical Andean civilization (Mochica). It flourished from around BC to 800 AD, centered on the Chicama and Moche river basins on the northern coast of Peru, and developed large cities centered on temples and had excellent irrigation facilities. There is a concentration of political power and a differentiation of social classes based on gender and status. The production of pottery and textiles, characterized by realistic patterns and shapes, was also popular. Like the preceding Chavin culture, there are iconographic representations of deified felines, especially jaguars.

アンデス文明古典期の文化（Mochica）。ペルー北部海岸のチカマ，モチェ両流域を中心として紀元前後ころから800年ころに栄え，神殿を中心に大都市を形成，すぐれた灌漑(かんがい)設備をもっていた。政治的権力の集中と，男女および身分による社会階層の分化が認められる。模様・形の写実性を特徴とする土器，織物の製作も盛行。先立つチャビン文化と同様にネコ科動物，とくにジャガーを神格化した図像表現がみられる。
