SWU - Separate Work Unit

A separation work unit for isotope separation. It refers to the amount of separation work required to obtain 1 kg of isotope enrichment in a separation plant. The amount of separation work is the amount of enrichment multiplied by a value function defined by its composition. The value function is a measure of the enrichment of an isotope, and the higher the enrichment, the larger the value of this function becomes, and it becomes infinitely larger as the enrichment approaches 100%. Therefore, the greater the isotope enrichment and the greater the production volume, the greater the separation work required.

同位体分離の分離作業単位。分離プラントにおいて 1kgの同位体濃縮物を得るのに必要とされる分離作業量 (分離仕事量) を意味する。分離作業量とは濃縮物の量にその組成で定義される価値関数を乗じたものである。価値関数とは同位体の濃縮度を表す一つの尺度で，この関数は高い濃縮度のものほど大きな値となり，100%の濃縮度に近づくほど限りなく大きくなる。したがって，同位体の濃縮度を高め，生産量を増やすほど大きな分離作業量が必要とされる。
