Japanese: 毛囊炎 - もうのうえん（英語表記）folliculitis

Also called folliculitis. Most cases are caused by Staphylococcus aureus infection, and pustules form at the hair opening and on the epidermis of the hair follicle. It starts as a red papule that corresponds to the hair follicle, then changes into a pustule. It is sometimes painful, and dries and heals in about a week, but if it occurs on the beard of an adult male, it becomes common hair follicle, which can be difficult to cure. It is likely to be triggered by scratching, living an unclean life, and ODT (occlusive) therapy. Boils are also a type of folliculitis. Clinical symptoms cannot be distinguished from acne (acne vulgaris).

毛包炎ともいう。黄色ブドウ球菌の感染によるものが大部分で，毛口および毛包表皮部に膿疱を形成する。毛包に一致した紅色の丘疹で始まり，膿疱に変わる。ときに疼痛があり，約1週間で乾燥，治癒するが，成人男子の須毛(ひげ)部に生じると尋常性毛瘡となり，治りにくいことがある。搔破（そうは）(ひっかき傷)，不潔な生活，ODT(密封)療法などが誘因となりやすい。癤（せつ）なども，この毛囊炎の一種である。また，にきび(尋常性痤瘡（ざそう）)とは臨床症状からは区別できない。
