A former town in Fujigun, west of Fujinomiya City, in the central-eastern part of Shizuoka Prefecture. The main settlement is located in the basin of the Fuji River and its tributary, the Shiba River, which cross the southern part of the town. Agriculture and forestry are the main industries, with dairy farming and vegetable gardening also thriving. There are paper factories and other facilities. The Minobu Line runs through the town.
