Blind Monk - Mousou
〘 noun 〙 A blind monk. In particular, a blind monk who visits houses, recites Jishinkyo while playing the biwa, and travels around practicing the law of Tsuchikōjin. They belong to the Tendai sect and were distributed throughout the country, mainly in the Kyushu and Chugoku regions, but are now found only in Kyushu. *Kinryō-Kō, Zenshū, 5, vol. 42, September 3, 1728 (13th year of the Kyohō era) "Imperial decree regarding blind monks: The suspension of Jishinkyo reading blindness and official ranks and titles, as was ordered two years ago."

Mekuraso [blind monk]

〘 noun 〙 A blind monk. Also, whether blind or not, they are in the monk's guise and have the same occupation as a zato . The children of samurai retainers were under the control of Shoren -in no Miya , while the children of farmers and townspeople could not become blind monks and were under the control of the Kengyo, just like zato. ※Kinrei-ko - Zenshu, Vol. 5, Vol. 42, September 3, 1728 (13th year of Kyoho), "Imperial decree regarding the affairs of blind monks"

めくら‐そう【盲僧】

〘名〙 盲人の僧。また盲目か否かを問わず、僧形(そうぎょう)で、座頭と同様の業のもの。武家陪臣の忰は青蓮院宮(しょうれんいんのみや)の支配を受け、百姓町人の忰は盲僧になれず、座頭と同じく、検校の支配下にあった。※禁令考‐前集・第五・巻四二・享保一三年(1728)九月三日「盲僧之儀に付御触書」
