Born: December 8, 1815 in Breslau (now Wrocław, Poland)
Died: February 9, 1905, Berlin. German painter and printmaker. He moved to Berlin with his family in 1830. In 1832, he took over the family business as a lithographer. From 1839 to 1842, he produced 400 prints to illustrate K. Kugler's book "The Life of Frederick the Great." He continued to depict the great king's achievements in prints and oil paintings, and from 1840 onwards, he also produced realistic oil paintings of civic life and street scenes. He also excelled in line drawings and watercolors. His major works include "The Army of Frederick the Great" (1842-57, pen and lithograph), "The Round Table at Sanssouci" (50), and "The Ironworks" (75, State Gallery, Berlin).

Died April 23, 1873. Stuttgart. German critic and literary historian. Editor of the Stuttgart Literary Newspaper. Criticized Goethe from a nationalistic standpoint and was attacked by the "Young Germany" faction. Author of a book on the history of German literature.

ドイツの画家，版画家。 1830年に家族とともにベルリンに移住。 32年に家業を継いで石版工となった。 39～42年に K.クーグラーの著書『フリードリヒ大王伝』の挿絵のために 400図の版画を制作。その後も大王の業績を版画や油絵で描き，40年以降は油絵で市民生活や街頭風景を扱った写実画も描いた。また線描画，水彩画にもすぐれた。主要作品は『フリードリヒ大王の軍隊』 (1842～57，ペン素描石版画) ，『サンスーシ宮の円卓会議』 (50) ，『鉄工場』 (75，ベルリン国立美術館) 。
