Omotego [village] - Omotego

Japanese: 表郷[村] - おもてごう

A village in Nishishirakawa District, southeastern Fukushima Prefecture. Population 7,607 (1995). Located in the southern part of the Nakadori region, south of Shirakawa City, it borders Tochigi Prefecture across the Yamizo Mountains. The Yashiro River, part of the Abukuma River system, flows east through the center, and cultivated land is spread out in a wide filled valley at an altitude of about 350m. The village's name comes from the name of a township in the Edo period. The central settlement is Kanayama, where National Route 289 passes, and gold mines have been developed upstream the Kogane River since ancient times, and it is said that they covered the costs of sending envoys to Tang China. In 1971, the irrigation Inugami Dam was completed, and farmland development was also completed, leading to the modernization of agriculture.

福島県南東部，西白河郡の村。人口7607(1995)。中通り南部，白河市の南に位置し，八溝山地を境に栃木県に接する。中央を阿武隈川水系の社川が東流し，標高350m前後の広い埋積谷に耕地が開けている。村名は江戸時代の郷名にちなむ。中心集落は国道289号線が通る金山で，黄金川上流には古代から金山が開かれ，遣唐使派遣の費用をまかなったと伝えられる。1971年には灌漑用水犬神ダムが完成，圃場整備も完了し，農業の近代化が進んだ。
