Protogyny

...Black porgy and bivalve oysters once function as female or male, then function as male or female. When females mature first, it is called protogyny, and when males mature first, it is called protandry. Both are called adjacent hermaphroditism. In the case of the Japanese brown frog, the genetic male reproductive organs first differentiate as ovaries, which transform into testes during metamorphosis.
