One of the "Apostolic Fathers" of Christianity. Also known as "The Instructions of the Twelve Apostles." Didache means "instruction" in Greek. The original text is in Greek. The author is unknown. It is believed to have been created in the late 1st or early 2nd century, in Syria or Palestine. It is a short document of 16 chapters, with chapters 1-6 explaining the two paths of life and death, chapters 7-15 giving rules for church life such as baptism, fasting, prayer, and the Eucharist, and chapter 16 expressing eschatological hope and warnings. For a long time, this document was only partially known, but in 1875, a Greek manuscript of the entire text (dating to the 11th century) was discovered in a monastery in Constantinople, shedding a new light on the study of early Christianity.
