...Teika did not explain the principles of kana usage in detail, but due to the fame of Fujiwara Teika in the art of waka poetry, this method of using kana became common practice in the world as a way of writing waka poems and stories in hiragana.

During the Northern and Southern Court period, Minamoto Tomoyuki (who became a monk and took the name Gyoa) wrote the Kana Mojizukai (Dictionary of Kana Characters), which added items such as "wa", "wa", "fu", and "u" as well as many examples of words to the eight types of kana that Teika had considered. While the Encyclopedia of Kana Characters was known only to a limited number of people, the Kana Mojizukai (Dictionary of Kana Characters) was widely used and was accepted by the world as Teika's version of kana.
