Wojciech Męcinski

Polish Jesuit priest. Martyred in Nagasaki. Born into an aristocratic family, he studied at the Jesuit Academy in Lublin and the University of Krakow before becoming a priest with the aim of evangelizing Japan. He donated the land and all his assets he inherited upon the death of his brother to the Academy in Krakow, and began evangelizing in Goa, Malacca, and Macau in 1633. In order to clear the disgrace of the Jesuits due to the apostasy of the Japanese Provincial Superior Ferreira, he disguised himself as a Chinese and infiltrated Satsuma with Father Rubino and others in 1642 (Kan'ei 19). He was captured and sent to Nagasaki, where he was tortured for seven months before dying on March 25, 1643.

ポーランドのイエズス会神父。長崎で殉教した。貴族の家に生まれ，ルブリンのイエズス会学林やクラクフ大学で学んだのち日本への伝道を志して神父となる。兄の死によって相続した領地と全財産をクラクフの学林に寄進し，1633年以来ゴア，マラッカ，澳門（マカオ）で布教。日本管区長フェレイラの棄教によるイエズス会の不名誉をそそぐため，42年(寛永19)ルビノ神父らとともに中国人に変装して薩摩に潜入。捕らえられて長崎に送られ7ヵ月の拷問ののち，43年3月25日絶命。
