This is an electronic melody analyzer invented in the 1950s by American ethnomusicologist Charles Seeger (1886-1979) and manufactured by Anderson of Interocean Systems. There are currently two models, Type B and Type C, with Type B analyzing and graphing changes in pitch and dynamics of melodies in real time, while Type C also analyzes the harmonic structure of tones in real time. It is the most effective analytical device for objectively visualizing and studying the melodies of ethnic music that are difficult to express using Western notation.
