Bidet - Bidet (English spelling)

A female genital washing device that is installed in the bathroom alongside the bathtub or toilet. There are two types: a hot water storage type and a fountain type. It is slightly smaller than a normal Western-style toilet. It is a ceramic product consisting of a mixer faucet, a tap, a stop valve, and an upward-facing fountain device, and is available in wall-mounted and floor-standing types. Some have a toilet seat like a Western-style toilet, but most are generally used while squatting. Some are built with casters under the washbasin and can be pulled out when in use to supply water and drainage through flexible pipes. Casters save space. In Japan, it was not common, but recently, washing toilets introduced from overseas technology have come into use, and products that can be used for both purposes, with two built-in pipes for washing the genitals and the anus, and that can adjust the temperature of the hot water as needed, are becoming popular. Some products also have a device that blows out warm air to dry the private parts.

浴室に浴槽や便器などと並べて設置される女性性器の洗浄装置で、貯湯式と噴水式がある。大きさは普通の洋風便器よりやや小形。混合水栓、蛇口、止水栓と上向きの噴水装置からなる陶器製品で、壁付き型と床置き型がある。洋風便器のように腰掛けて使う便座のあるものもあるが、一般的には中腰で洗浄する形式のものが多い。また、キャスターがついて洗面器の下に組み込まれ、使用時に引き出してフレキシブルパイプにより給排水を行うものもある。キャスター付きのものはスペースが節約できる。わが国では、その利用が一般的ではなかったが、最近では海外技術から導入された洗浄便器が使われるようになり、兼用型として性器の洗浄管と肛門(こうもん)洗浄管の二管が内蔵され、温水温度を調節しながら必要に応じて洗浄する製品が普及し始めている。また、製品によっては温風を吹き出させて局部を乾かす装置をもつものもある。
