A general term for the prosimians of the Tarsiidae family of the primates. Also called Tarsia. There is one family and one genus, with three species: the Philippine Tarsius syrichta , which lives in the southern Philippines; the Celebes Tarsius T. spectrum , which lives in the Celebes region; and the Horsfield's Tarsius T. bancanus (illustration), which lives in Borneo and Sumatra. The head is large and round, and the face is flat because the nose and mouth are not very prominent. The very large, forward-facing eyes are convenient for stereoscopic vision while in the trees.

霊長目メガネザル科の原猿の総称。タルシアともいう。1科1属で，フィリピン南部に生息するフィリピンメガネザルTarsius syrichta，セレベス地方に生息するセレベスメガネザルT.spectrum，ボルネオ･スマトラ地方に生息するホースフィールドメガネザルT.bancanus（イラスト）の3種がいる。頭はまるく大きく，顔は鼻口部の突出がきわめて弱いため平面的で，前に向いた非常に大きな目は樹上での立体視につごうがよい。
