Transposing musical instruments

An instrument that is notated in a key other than the actual pitch. This notational practice arose on wind instruments before the invention of valves and keys because that key was the easiest to play. For example, on an A clarinet, A major would be notated as C major. However, modern composers often notate music in the actual pitch. 実音とは別の調で記譜される楽器。バルブやキーが発明される以前の管楽器では，その基調が最も演奏しやすかったために，この記譜上の習慣が起った。たとえばイ調クラリネットでは，イ長調がハ長調で記譜される。ただし，現代の作曲家は実音で記譜する場合が多い。
