Transposing musical instruments

Japanese: 移調楽器 - いちょうがっき（英語表記）transposing musical instruments

An instrument that is notated in a key other than the actual pitch. This notational practice arose on wind instruments before the invention of valves and keys because that key was the easiest to play. For example, on an A clarinet, A major would be notated as C major. However, modern composers often notate music in the actual pitch.
