This refers to a type of forestry where the landowner and the planter are separate entities and the profits are shared between them. This type of forestry emerged throughout the country from around the 18th century, and was called tokubetsubayashi (Tsugaru Domain), uetatebayashi (Akita Domain), nibuichiyama (Fukuoka Domain), and other systems, and was relatively common in the Tohoku and southern Kyushu regions. In these types of forestry, mainly farmers planted trees on mountains managed by the domain, and the profits were shared between the domain and the planter in a ratio of 70:3 or 20:1.
