Located in Kamiya, Kamikawa Village, Higashikanbara District, Niigata Prefecture, this site dates from the Early Jomon to Yayoi periods. It is a cave 7m wide, 3m high, and 8m deep, opening southward into a cliff of plagioclase rhyolite on the left bank of the Muroya River, about 2km upstream from the Muroya settlement. In front of it is a terrace about 8m wide, which becomes a terrace cliff with a height difference of about 40m to the riverbed. Three excavation surveys have been carried out since 1960. As a result, Hajiki pottery, Yayoi pottery, and artifacts from the Early to Late Jomon periods were found in the upper layers, and in the third layer at the back of the cave, a human skeleton (adult female) buried in a flexed position from the beginning of the Early Jomon period was discovered.
