Taymyr Peninsula (English spelling) Poluostrov Taymyr

A peninsula jutting out from north-central Russia into the Arctic Ocean. It is the northernmost point of the Asian continent, and separates the Laptev Sea and the Kara Sea. Its area is approximately 400,000 square kilometers. The southern part is part of the West Siberian Plain, and is covered with coniferous forests. In the center is the Buyanga Mountains (highest point 1,146 meters), which are mainly made up of metamorphic rocks and are covered with glaciers. The northern part is a low marine plateau. Most of the peninsula is tundra (permafrost), and most of it is unused land.
