...For this reason, the Building Standards Act prescribes minimum standards for the size of windows that are effective for letting in light into rooms in which people are constantly living. The ratio of window area required for an occupant room to its floor area (opening ratio) is set at 1/5 for classrooms in elementary, middle, and high schools, 1/7 for homes, hospital rooms, clinics, and dormitory bedrooms, and 1/10 for other occupant rooms in these buildings.
